Al-Sisi reviews 105 power grid projects and renewable plans

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi reviewed progress on 105 electricity grid projects in a meeting with the prime minister and electricity minister.

Al-Sisi met Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat to discuss the second phase of grid reinforcement projects and plans to connect additional solar and wind projects to the national grid by 2027.

Al-Sisi stressed the importance of improving electricity supply quality and reliability, enhancing conventional fuel efficiency, and adhering to project schedules.

The meeting covered the Obelisk Solar Project whose first phase of 500 MW generation capacity and 200 MWh battery storage was connected to the grid earlier this year while the second 500 MW phase is expected to enter operation in the coming weeks.

Officials also reviewed the Energy Valley Project which includes 1.7 GW of solar power in Minya Governorate supported by 4 GWh of battery storage across Minya, Qena and Alexandria.
