UN Economic Commission for Africa Executive Secretary Claver Gatete began his first working visit to Algeria by meeting President Abdelmajid Tebboune, aiming to bolster cooperation and pinpoint priorities for bilateral ties. The discussion underscored Tebboune's firm commitment to deepening collaboration with the ECA in critical domains such as statistics, public policy monitoring, digitalization, governance, and South-South partnerships.
"Africa is capable of achieving extraordinary results, including in manufacturing and high-technology," Tebboune stated, highlighting how industrialization could curb unemployment and reduce reliance on imports. He argued that true development extends beyond macroeconomic indicators to encompass human progress and equitable income distribution.
Gatete's trip to North Africa includes engagements with officials in Algeria, Mauritania, and Morocco. The visits seek a direct grasp of each nation's development agendas, requirements, support needs, and prospects for expanded South-South cooperation.
