Fernando Alonso reported positive first impressions of Aston Martin's major upgrade package after Friday practice at the Hungarian Grand Prix. The team introduced a B-spec AMR26 featuring 16 new components. Lance Stroll missed FP2 after a suspension failure in FP1.
Alonso finished 13th in FP1 and 19th in FP2. He said the car delivered what the team expected in terms of numbers and correlation.
"Yeah, it felt good," Alonso declared after FP2. "I think in general we had what we expected in terms of numbers and correlation, which is obviously very encouraging for the future as well."
Team technical partner Adrian Newey described the package as the first part of planned upgrades. Additional components are scheduled for Zandvoort after the summer break and further steps in Monza and Baku.
Stroll's rear suspension failed after 36 minutes of FP1, causing a spin and red flag. The team confirmed it could not repair the car in time for FP2. Newey noted the failed part had not been changed in the upgrade.
