Chennai: Gnanavel Babu, a senior professor in the Industrial Engineering department at Anna University, was arrested in Tirunelveli on Friday and produced in a Chennai court on Saturday, where he was remanded to judicial custody. The case was registered at the Abiramapuram All-Women Police Station based on a complaint from a final-year student alleging sexual harassment.

The university administration had suspended the professor prior to his arrest. Police brought him to the city after apprehending him in Tirunelveli.
