Anthropic previews interactive visuals for Claude chatbot

Anthropic has introduced a beta feature allowing its Claude AI to generate interactive charts, diagrams, and visualizations directly in chats. The tool aims to enhance understanding by replacing dense text with visuals when appropriate. It is available to all users on web and desktop platforms.

Anthropic announced on March 12, 2026, a new update for its Claude chatbot, enabling it to create interactive visuals as part of responses. The feature, currently in beta, allows Claude to produce charts, diagrams, and other visualizations either when users request them or when the AI deems them helpful for explaining concepts.

Unlike traditional image generators, Claude uses HTML code and SVG vector graphics to build these elements on the spot. Anthropic describes it as providing Claude with an on-demand whiteboard, making explanations more dynamic and easier to follow. For instance, when prompted to show how to change a tire, Claude generated a seven-step interactive illustration, including required tools and key explanations. The visuals are not highly detailed but effectively convey the process, and users can download or save them as artifacts.

Other examples include a step-by-step tutorial for folding a Nakamura lock paper airplane and an interactive periodic table where users can click elements for more information. In a creative test, Claude visualized the front of a house from a book, with clickable elements like windows and doors revealing details.

The capability is available by default across all Claude plan types, without paywalls, though it is limited to web and desktop for now, with mobile support potentially coming later. Anthropic notes that as beta software, users may encounter quirks. This release follows a similar update from OpenAI for ChatGPT, which added interactive visuals for science and math explanations just days prior.

The feature underscores Anthropic's efforts to make Claude a more versatile tool, selecting the best medium—text or visual—for delivering information.
