Apple's online store has undergone a significant update, enabling customers to build a new Mac precisely to their preferences. Previously, buyers selected from several preconfigured models, but the new tool lets users pick specifications one by one, similar to customizing an iPhone. Options now include color, display, chip, memory, storage, and even the power adapter.
The configurator also allows adding pre-installed software, such as Final Cut Pro or Logic Pro, directly during purchase. As first spotted by MacWorld, this shift provides greater customization without major overhauls to the buying process.
The timing could hint at Apple's preparations for refreshed MacBook Pros. According to MacWorld, rumors suggest the next models will feature M5 Pro and M5 Max chips with enhanced flexibility, allowing choices in CPU and GPU core counts. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman has indicated a potential release alongside macOS 26.3, expected between February and March.
