Avadi residents urge improved water supply during peak summer

Residents of Avadi have urged the municipal corporation to provide additional drinking water amid peak summer and drying borewells. The civic body is planning to strengthen pipeline infrastructure to address shortages in rapidly growing areas.

Avadi residents have called for better water supply as summer peaks and some borewells run dry. The area relies on bulk supply from Chennai Metrowater and local groundwater, but rapid housing growth has outpaced infrastructure.

Members of the Kendriya Vihar-II Apartment Owners Welfare Association noted they have waited a decade for piped connections. Resident V.N. Sainath said the complex has nearly 572 apartments and needs at least 10 tanker loads daily after borewells failed.

Officials admitted the network requires a full revamp. Commissioner R. Saranya said street tanks were added in eight locations and tanker supply is available, though the area receives about 30 million litres daily. The corporation has provided 4,000 connections under the Rs.55 crore AMRUT 2.0 project and aims for 24,000 by year-end.
