Band studies change to presidential debate date

TV Band admits it may change the date of the first 2026 presidential debate to make it easier for President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to attend.

The broadcaster had set the event for August 16, the first official day of the electoral campaign. Lula plans a large political rally at Estádio 1º de Maio in São Bernardo do Campo on the same date.

In a statement, Band said the debate will take place between August 16 and 23, on a date still to be defined. The PT uses Lula's commitment as justification for his possible absence.

The president's team is divided on participation, as he would be the main target of the other candidates, most of them from the right.
