Indonesia's Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) has warned of potential heavy rain that could be accompanied by lightning and strong winds in various major cities on Sunday, November 16, 2025. According to BMKG forecaster Diah, cities on Sumatra island such as Bengkulu, Palembang, and Pangkal Pinang are at risk of heavy rain with thunder, while Medan, Pekanbaru, Padang, Tanjung Pinang, Jambi, and Bandar Lampung are expected to see light to moderate rain. Aceh is forecasted to have thick clouds.

In Java, heavy rain with lightning is possible in Jakarta and Bandung. Light to moderate rain is anticipated in Serang, Semarang, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya. Specifically for Jakarta, BMKG predicts that all areas including West, Central, North, East, South Jakarta, and the Thousand Islands will experience light rain from 07:00 WIB to 10:00 WIB, followed by thunderstorms at 13:00 WIB, and thick clouds in the afternoon to evening.

Other regions like Bali and Lombok will have thick clouds, while Kupang faces potential heavy rain with lightning. In Kalimantan, light to moderate rain is widespread in Pontianak, Tanjung Selor, Samarinda, Palangka Raya, and Banjarmasin. Sulawesi is also expected to have light to moderate rain in Makassar, Mamuju, Palu, Gorontalo, Manado, and Kendari. Eastern areas such as Ternate, Ambon, Sorong, Manokwari, Nabire, Jayapura, Jayawijaya, and Merauke will see light to moderate rain.

BMKG Head Teuku Faisal Fathani stated that Indonesia is entering a period of increasing rainfall toward the peak rainy season, influenced by a weak La Nina persisting until March 2026. Although its impact is not highly significant, high rainfall still requires caution. BMKG urges local governments and the public to remain vigilant against possible extreme weather affecting daily activities.
