The Washington Capitals have loaned forward Brett Leason to the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League. Leason, a 26-year-old native of Calgary, Alberta, has appeared in six games with the Capitals this season. He has recorded 14 points in 20 games with Hershey.

The Washington Capitals announced the loan of forward Brett Leason to the Hershey Bears on Wednesday, as stated by senior vice president and general manager Chris Patrick. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound player has suited up for six games with the Capitals during the current season without recording a point.

Leason has been productive in the AHL, tallying 14 points, including six goals and eight assists, over 20 games with Hershey. Originally drafted by the Capitals in the second round, 56th overall, in the 2019 NHL Draft, Leason has a varied professional career. He spent three seasons with the Anaheim Ducks, where he accumulated 48 points in 184 games. His best season came in 2023-24, when he notched a career-high 22 points in 68 contests. During his time with Anaheim, Leason ranked fifth among forwards in shorthanded ice time at 257:15 and sixth in hits with 179.

Leason previously played for the Capitals in the 2021-22 season, recording six points in 36 games. He made his NHL debut on October 29, 2021, against the Arizona Coyotes and appeared in the Stanley Cup Playoffs on May 5, 2022, in Game 2 of the first round against Florida. Across 226 career NHL games with Washington and Anaheim, Leason has 54 points, consisting of 25 goals and 29 assists. In the AHL, he has 61 points in 134 games with Hershey.

Leason was claimed off waivers by Anaheim from Washington on October 10, 2022. The move to Hershey allows him to continue developing in a familiar AHL environment.
