Former minister Ciro Gomes launched his pre-candidacy for governor of Ceará in Fortaleza on Saturday. During the event, he mistook a supporter's gesture for a Comando Vermelho symbol and called for his arrest before apologizing.
Ciro Gomes formalized his pre-candidacy for governor of Ceará at an event in the Conjunto Ceará neighborhood of Fortaleza on Saturday. The former minister, who governed the state from 1991 to 1994, confirmed Roberto Cláudio as his running mate and named PL figures for the Senate.
During his speech, Ciro interrupted himself after seeing a supporter make a hand gesture. He said into the microphone: “My brother, do you want to be arrested? It starts here. The guy is making the Comando Vermelho symbol there. Arrest him.” Ciro’s wife and others explained the gesture was a “C for Ciro.” He apologized and stated: “Sorry, it’s that I’m vigilant. Comando Vermelho here goes to jail.”
Ciro criticized the current administration of Governor Elmano de Freitas and called rivals “weak.” He praised the alliance with the PL and vowed to combat criminal factions. The event included allies such as André Fernandes.
