Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels expressed deep frustration Tuesday over the team's decision to shut him down for the rest of the 2025 season due to his re-aggravated elbow injury. The star will shift to recovery and practice while supporting backup Marcus Mariota.
Following Monday's announcement to prioritize his long-term health after re-aggravating a dislocated elbow in Week 14 against the Minnesota Vikings—his second injury flare-up after Week 9—the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year spoke candidly about the challenges of his sophomore season.
"Super tough, man," Daniels said. "I don't want to miss games at all. It's been frustrating being associated with missing games. I want to be out there helping my teammates as much as possible, so it's just been a frustrating year at this point, but you learn from it and you move forward."
Describing the year as filled with "frustrated, disappointed, a lot more emotion, but probably a lot of adversity," Daniels called the elbow injury "traumatic" and unpredictable, contrasting it with more manageable knee and hamstring issues earlier. He plans to remain with the team in practice, gain perspective, and support Mariota without going on injured reserve.
The Commanders (now 5-10 after snapping an eight-game skid with a 29-21 win over the Giants) host the NFC East-leading Eagles on Saturday, aiming to build momentum despite dimmed playoff hopes.
