Commerce advances Father's Day celebration ahead of runoff

Fenalco decided to advance Father's Day celebrations to June 14 to prevent the presidential runoff on June 21 from affecting sales.

The overlap between the presidential runoff, the World Cup and Father's Day prompted organized commerce to move the date. The move aims to turn the mid-June holiday weekend into the main celebration moment for Colombian fathers.

Jaime Alberto Cabal, president of Fenalco, said the runoff confirmation makes advancing the date pertinent. He added that the month will be full of emotions due to the World Cup and the decisive election day.

The guild estimates that World Cup-linked sectors could see increases close to 25 percent. Products with the highest potential include snacks, sodas and cold meats.
