DAX closes above 25,000 points after volatile trading

The DAX ended Wednesday's trading session at 25,155 points, gaining 0.6 percent. The index thus reclaimed the 25,000-point mark.

After a volatile trading day the German benchmark index closed in Düsseldorf at 25,155 points. This represents a gain of around 0.6 percent and allowed the psychologically important 25,000-point mark to be reclaimed.

Jochen Stanzl, chief market analyst at CMC Markets, however stressed the ongoing sideways movement. He said: “Technically it will only get exciting in the DAX when it sustainably leaves the 25,500-point mark upwards. Everything below counts as a trendless phase.”

Brent crude rose 2.3 percent to 93.09 dollars per barrel. Thomas Altmann of QC Partners warned of rising inflation fears due to higher energy prices. Economists nevertheless expect the ECB to leave key interest rates unchanged at its meeting on Thursday.
