The tournament, part of the Korn Ferry Tour, continues with third-round tee times set for late morning.
The second round of the Astara Golf Championship presented by Mastercard on the Korn Ferry Tour encountered weather challenges on Friday. Initially suspended due to lightning at 2:09 p.m. ET, play resumed at 4:55 p.m. before darkness forced another stop at 6:01 p.m. ET. Round two will pick up Saturday at 7 a.m., with 67 competitors still on the course. Third-round action is scheduled to begin approximately between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. off the first and 10th tees.
At the top, Chile's Cristobal Del Solar and American Mason Andersen co-lead at 10-under par. Del Solar, playing from Jupiter, Florida, was even par through eight holes in his second round when play halted. This marks his third appearance at the event, where he finished fifth last year. A 2024 Korn Ferry Tour winner at the Ascendant presented by Blue, Del Solar also claimed the 2022 Volvo Golf Championship on PGA Tour Latinoamérica. He made 26 PGA Tour starts in 2025, ending the FedExCup Fall at No. 187.
Andersen fired a 6-under 65 in the second round, with seven birdies and one bogey. This would be his third career 36-hole lead if it holds. Currently eighth on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List, he has two top-25 finishes this season. A 2024 graduate of the tour after his first win at the 117 Visa Argentina Open, Andersen also played 25 PGA Tour events in 2025.
Tied for third at 9-under are James Nicholas, Tom Whitney, Hayden Buckley, Hunter Eichhorn, and Robby Shelton. Nicholas posted a bogey-free 65, his best 36-hole position on tour. Whitney matched with an 8-under 63 in his season debut. Buckley went bogey-free over his last 24 holes, including an eagle. Eichhorn, in his tournament debut, added a 3-under 68 to his opening 65. Shelton, a four-time tour winner, was 2-under through 11 holes.
Notable moves included Colombia's Ricardo Celia, who rallied from 1-over to finish 1-under in round one and added a 3-under 68, sitting at 4-under overall. Fellow Colombian Camilo Villegas, a five-time PGA Tour winner, birdied five straight on holes 14-18 for a 6-under 65 after an opening 74, reaching 3-under.
Withdrawals due to illness affected Ross Steelman before round two and Bryson Nimmer during it, alongside Sebastian Cappelen, Rayhan Thomas, Braden Thornberry, and Ben Kohles.
The event highlights rising talents vying for PGA Tour cards through strong Korn Ferry Tour performances.
