Delhi recorded the highest number of crimes against women and senior citizens among India’s 19 metropolitan cities in 2024, according to the latest Crime in India report released by the National Crime Records Bureau on Wednesday. The capital also topped the list for offences committed by juveniles and theft cases.

The NCRB report showed that Delhi registered 13,396 cases of crimes against women in 2024, accounting for more than a quarter of all such cases across metros. It also recorded 1,267 crimes against senior citizens, representing just over 30 percent of the national metro total.

Delhi reported 2,306 crimes committed by juveniles, the highest among metros and well above the national average of 7.9 percent. The capital led in theft cases as well, with 1,80,973 incidents out of 6,21,945 recorded nationwide.

Nationally, the overall crime rate declined by 6 percent to 58.86 lakh cases. Cybercrime rose by over 17 percent to 1,01,928 cases, with fraud accounting for 72.6 percent of them.

The report also noted a marginal dip in murders in Delhi to 504 cases and a decline in crimes against senior citizens from 1,361 in 2023. A senior police officer attributed the high registration rate of crimes against women to prompt filing of complaints.
