A driver with initials AS (50) was killed after being hit by a falling tree during heavy rain on Jalan Darmawangsa Raya, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, on Thursday afternoon (October 30). The incident affected several vehicles and caused one injury. South Jakarta Metro Police are handling the case.
The tragic incident occurred around 3:00 PM on Thursday (October 30) on Jalan Darmawangsa Raya, Pulo Ward, Kebayoran Baru District, South Jakarta. Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds caused an old tree to fall, hitting about four cars and one motorcycle that were passing by. One black car was most severely affected, killing its driver, AS (50).
South Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Commissioner Nicolas Ary Lilipaly, stated on Friday that the case is being handled by the Traffic and Security units. "Handling by South Jakarta Police. The case is managed by Traffic and Security," he said. The victim's body is currently at the hospital for examination before being handed over to the family.
Pulo Ward Head, Sumarmi, explained that the tree was old and prone to falling. "30 minutes of rain causing puddles, the tree was indeed very large and old, it should have been cut down," she said.
According to the Head of Data and Information Center of DKI Jakarta's Disaster Mitigation Agency, Mohamad Yohan, one person died upon arrival at the hospital, and one injured victim was taken to medical facilities. "One person died upon arrival at the hospital," he said. Officials have evacuated the victims, vehicles, and the tree blocking the road. Losses are still being assessed.
In broader context, the heavy rain also caused flooding in 54 neighborhoods in South Jakarta until Thursday at 11:00 PM WIB, with water levels of 30-110 cm, due to overflows from the Krukut and Mampang Rivers. Although reports vary on the number of affected vehicles—five cars according to BPBD—the incident highlights risks from old trees during the rainy season.
