Drivers weigh Spa appeal under 2026 F1 rules ahead of Belgian GP

Formula 1 drivers have shared mixed views on how the current regulations will affect racing at Spa-Francorchamps during this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix.

Reigning world champion Lando Norris said the circuit will not present the same challenge as before. "It's certainly not going to be the same Spa," the McLaren driver said.

Oscar Piastri noted that energy management will simplify strategy compared to Silverstone. "It will probably actually be simple-ish because you empty the whole pack from Turn 1 to the end of the Kemmel straight anyway," he said.

Oliver Bearman of Haas said he now prefers Hungary and Austria over Spa and Silverstone due to braking zones. Lewis Hamilton focused on racing quality over lap times at the track.

Norris also expressed regret that Spa will be held only every other year starting in 2028. Free practice sessions are scheduled for today at the 7.004km circuit in Stavelot, Belgium, with the race set for Sunday.
