Eastern Cape MEC condemns fatal shootings in Gqeberha

Eastern Cape Safety MEC Xolile Nqatha has condemned a series of shooting incidents in Gqeberha's Walmer township that resulted in eight deaths over the long weekend. Police are investigating multiple murders after armed assailants targeted homes and streets in the area. Authorities urge the public to provide information to aid the arrests.

Eastern Cape Safety MEC Xolile Nqatha expressed strong condemnation over the fatal shootings that claimed eight lives in Gqeberha during the recent long weekend. The incidents unfolded in Walmer township and surrounding areas, highlighting ongoing concerns about violent crime in the region.

On Tuesday, more than three armed men attacked three houses in Walmer, killing four males aged between 22 and 29, while injuring four others. The South African Police Service (SAPS) Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit is probing these events as four counts of murder.

Earlier, on Sunday, a 39-year-old man was fatally shot on Mankazana Street. Additionally, three bodies showing multiple gunshot wounds were discovered in Airport Valley. Police have called on residents with any details to contact Detective Lieutenant Colonel Sithole at 082... to assist in the investigations.

MEC Nqatha's spokesperson, Makhaya Komisa, stated that law enforcement is operating tirelessly to apprehend the perpetrators. "MEC Nqatha is warning the suspects responsible for these heinous crimes that the police are working around the clock to arrest them," Komisa said. The MEC affirmed that no effort will be spared in the probe and expressed full trust in SAPS to achieve results soon.

These events have shocked the local community, underscoring the need for enhanced security measures in vulnerable townships.
