Gabriel Attal, head of Renaissance, and Édouard Philippe, Horizons candidate, have tasked their teams with starting talks ahead of the 2027 presidential election. According to Le Figaro, a first meeting is set for Wednesday, April 15, with centrists. François Bayrou is involved through MoDem.
Over lunch, Franck Riester (Renaissance), Christophe Béchu (Horizons), Marc Fesneau (MoDem), and Hervé Marseille (UDI) will meet at Franck Riester’s initiative. In a March 24 letter seen by Le Figaro, Riester suggests a "liaison committee" for regular meetings. The goal is the "largest possible gathering of democrats and good-faith republicans".
The effort comes as discussions revive around a single candidate for the right and center, amid debates on unity against the extremes.
