Egypt and Morocco sign wide-ranging cooperation deals on industry and investment

Egypt and Morocco signed a series of agreements spanning industrial cooperation, investment, and avoidance of double taxation, the Egyptian cabinet said. Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Moroccan counterpart Aziz Akhannouch witnessed the signing in Cairo’s New Administrative Capital. The ceremony concluded the first session of the Egyptian-Moroccan Coordination and Follow-up Committee.

Egypt and Morocco signed an industrial cooperation protocol between Egyptian Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem and Moroccan Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour.

In the financial sector, Egyptian Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk and Moroccan Economy and Finance Minister Nadia Fettah signed an agreement on mutual administrative assistance in customs matters and a treaty to avoid double taxation. An investment MoU was formalised between Egypt’s General Authority for Investment and Free Zones and the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development, signed by Minister of Investment Mohamed Farid and Karim Zidane.

Foreign Ministers Badr Abdelatty and Nasser Bourita signed documents including an MoU on diplomatic studies, housing, electricity, renewable energy, health, pharmaceuticals, and tourism. On agriculture, Ministers Alaa El-Din Farouk and Ahmed El Bouari discussed strengthening ties to tackle climate change, focusing on technology transfer and joint investments in salinity-resistant seeds and fish processing.

Social and cultural agreements covered sports, youth, and culture, signed by respective ministers. The proceedings concluded with Madbouly and Akhannouch signing the minutes of the first session of the committee.
