The fifth season of Netflix's Emily in Paris has launched, shifting the story to Rome while retaining ties to Paris. Lily Collins returns as Emily Cooper, navigating new romances and professional challenges. The season introduces fresh cast members and unexpected plot twists.
Emily in Paris, the popular Netflix series, released its fifth season on December 18. The show follows Emily Cooper, a Chicago marketing executive played by Lily Collins, who relocated to Paris for her dream job. At the end of season 4, Emily moved to Rome to open a new office for her firm, focusing on Italian fashion brands and sparking juicy drama.
Despite the Roman setting, production returned to Paris for filming, capturing landmarks like the Eiffel Tower. Collins and costar Ashley Park expressed fondness for the French capital. Behind-the-scenes photos show the cast enjoying sizable portions of pasta between scenes, highlighting the hospitality during shoots.
Season 5 introduces new love interests and locations. Emily's romance with Marcello, portrayed by Eugenio Franceschini, aims to help her achieve better work-life balance. Collins told Tudum: "Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily, because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work-life balance. We want to have Emily be able to smile without condition."
A potential flirtation emerges between Emily's best friend Mindy (Ashley Park) and her ex-boyfriend Alfie (Lucien Laviscount). Laviscount shared with People: "All I’m gonna say is strap in. Because it goes left, so far left, and a little bit right this season. I didn’t know what to expect – none of us do before we get the scripts – and we got the scripts for this season and it’s … Yeah, I don’t think anyone could have foreseen that coming."
Returning cast includes Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu as Sylvie Grateau, who is torn between two romantic relationships while expanding the business to Rome; Lucas Bravo as Gabriel, left behind in Paris; and others like Samuel Arnold as Julien and Bruno Gouery as Luc. Newcomers feature Bryan Greenberg as Jake, an American in Paris, and Minnie Driver as Princess Jane, a well-connected figure in Rome. Michèle Laroque joins as Yvette, an old friend of Sylvie's.
Speculation surrounds whether this season marks the end of the series, with fans encouraged to voice interest in future installments.
