Essential demand to have priority in supply during SPEC maintenance

The Ministry of Mines and Energy issued resolution 40267 of 2026 to ensure gas supply during maintenance of the SPEC regasification plant in Cartagena, scheduled from July 30 to August 3.

The resolution establishes that during maintenance of the infrastructure in Cartagena, essential gas demand will be prioritized over non-essential demand. This includes first supplying compression stations of the National Transport System, residential users, small businesses, Compressed Natural Gas for Vehicles, and refineries.

Once those requirements are met, thermal generation dispatched for security, non-essential industrial demand, and firm export contracts will be considered. Minister Edwin Palma stated that the goal is to protect users and ensure continuity of essential services.

The document also requires Sociedad Portuaria El Cayao, SPEC LNG, to participate in meetings of the National Gas Operation Council to report on maintenance progress. Deadlines were set for declaring firm gas volumes needed during the period.
