Ethiopia's special forces commemorate 65th anniversary

Ethiopia's Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.) addressed the 65th anniversary commemoration of the special forces in Addis Ababa. Military leaders also gathered in various formations to mark the occasion with demonstrations. In Hawassa, a historical book on the forces was launched on the same day.

On Yekatit 14, 2018 E.C. (February 21, 2026 G.C.), Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.) stated in Addis Ababa that Ethiopia's special forces, born in the womb of the nation, are a source of pride. Speaking at the 65th anniversary commemoration of the special forces, he noted in a message read on his behalf that Ethiopia has stood firm through numerous challenges in the past 65 years.

The prime minister highlighted that over 65 years, amid many trials, Ethiopia has produced many heroes who are the nation's pride. Through defense reforms, including the air force, commando units, and special anti-terror forces, the country has advanced in organization, human resources, and readiness, standing prepared to decisively confront any enemy at any time and under any circumstance, he said.

Field Marshal Berhanu Jula, chief of staff of the armed forces, addressed generals and officers during the commemoration events in various formations. On the day, air force, special commando, anti-terror, and naval units conducted joint exercises involving drone launches, targeted strikes, and attacks from aircraft. The book titled 'Situation Marsh Mementos,' which sheds light on the history of the special forces, was launched in Hawassa on the occasion.

In particular, the prime minister stated that the unique military skills demonstrated today by naval practices, air force, and commando members in formation have confirmed the military's high capability.
