Ethiopian Airlines celebrates Women's Day with all-female crew flights

On International Women's Day, March 8, Ethiopian Airlines marked the occasion by operating flights with exclusively female crews. This initiative highlights the strong role of women across all sectors of the airline. The celebration aligns with the global theme of women's voices for equality and a prosperous Ethiopia.

Addis Ababa, Ketit 29, 2018 (Fana) – As the world observes International Women's Day on March 8 each year, Ethiopian Airlines commemorated the day by running flights staffed entirely by women. This practice underscores the robust involvement of women in every facet of the airline's operations.

The global theme, 'Women's Voice for Equality and Prosperous Ethiopia,' has been celebrated in various events across Ethiopia. Marking its 115th observance worldwide and 50th in Ethiopia, the day reflects how women's dual participation and utilization have doubled over the past 50 years.

Ethiopian Airlines honored the theme by operating several flights captained by women on this day. These flights connect to cities including Frankfurt, Accra, Mumbai, Cairo, Djibouti, Nairobi, Windhoek, and Dire Dawa.

The Ethiopian Airlines Group, which works to empower women in the aviation field, reports that 40 percent of its total employees are women. In management positions, women make up 35 percent. Furthermore, by opening pilot training opportunities for women, the airline has trained 95 female pilots.
