Family demands arrest of partner in Andrea Maylin feminicide

Feminist groups, family, and friends of Andrea Maylin Chino Ramos protested in Mexico City to demand the arrest of her partner, Ricardo “N”, the alleged perpetrator of her feminicide in Morelos. The 21-year-old was found dead on July 30 after prior reports of violence. Her father recounted how the suspect's family fled after the body was discovered.

Andrea Maylin Chino Ramos, 21 years old, was a victim of feminicide in the municipality of Yautepec, Morelos. Her body was found lifeless on July 30, days after her parents reported her missing. For three years, Maylin was in a relationship with Ricardo “N”, whom she denounced at least three times for domestic violence, with authorities failing to act in time.

Juan Carlos Chino, the victim's father, recounted the events: “On June 21, my daughter was a victim of feminicide by her partner Ricardo. Her partner notified me on June 23 that she was missing, that she might have gone partying and left her almost two-year-old granddaughter abandoned.” The investigation revealed the body two houses away from where they lived, on a lot where Ricardo's parents kept a horse.

Before the discovery, Chino's father-in-law promised to hand over the responsible party, even if it was his son. However, after finding the body, Ricardo and his parents fled Morelos. “The prosecutor's office has turned a blind eye, they don't want to enforce the Monse Law to hold my daughter's killer's parents accountable,” Chino denounced. The Morelos Prosecutor's Office summoned the alleged father's father to testify but did not arrest him, claiming he was not involved in the events.

Despite approaches to state and federal authorities, there has been no progress toward justice. Maylin was a hardworking woman dedicated to her home, and her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter—who will turn two in January—remains in the care of her grandparents. “My daughter is not here today for my granddaughter and it's a tragedy what has happened,” Chino lamented.

The protesters gathered in front of the Glorieta de las Mujeres que Luchan, set up photo displays of Ricardo on Paseo de la Reforma, and blocked vehicular traffic, demanding the enforcement of the Monse Law to arrest the parents for cover-up.
