Fastmail releases desktop app for Windows, macOS, and Linux

Privacy-focused email provider Fastmail has launched its first dedicated desktop application, allowing users to access inboxes, calendars, and contacts offline. The app mirrors the web interface while integrating seamlessly with operating system features. It is available now for download across major platforms.

Fastmail, known for its emphasis on user privacy, announced the release of a new desktop app on October 13, 2025. This marks the provider's initial foray into a standalone desktop client, supporting Windows, macOS, and major Linux distributions. Users can now manage their email, calendars, and contacts directly from their desktops, even without an internet connection.

The application replicates the familiar web-based interface, ensuring no learning curve for existing users. It functions like a native desktop program: it can be pinned to the taskbar or dock, launched via the app switcher, and designated as the default email handler for links. Offline capabilities include reading messages, composing drafts, updating calendars, and adding contacts, with all changes syncing automatically upon reconnection.

Integration with each operating system's native features enhances usability, incorporating system notifications, menus, and platform-specific keyboard shortcuts. To begin, users simply download the app for their chosen platform and sign in with their Fastmail credentials. The consistent design across desktop, web, and mobile ensures a unified experience.

Fastmail operates on a subscription model, starting at $5 per month for individuals, which provides 60GB of storage—50GB for email, calendars, and contacts, plus 10GB for files. Additional perks include custom domains, masked email addresses for secure logins, full offline access, and round-the-clock human support. Couples plans cost $8 monthly, family plans $11, and business options begin at $3 per user per month, with extras for storage and security. New subscribers receive a 30-day free trial.

This launch expands Fastmail's accessibility, catering to users who prefer desktop applications over browser-based access while maintaining strong privacy standards.
