Vice President Geraldo Alckmin announced on Saturday that the federal government will recognize the emergency situation in six municipalities in inland São Paulo after a storm that left one dead and caused major damage.
The storm hit the Ribeirão Preto region in the early hours of Friday, July 24, with wind gusts of up to 122 km/h and 24 millimeters of rain in 20 minutes. The phenomenon, classified as atmospheric microbursts, caused the death of one man, fallen trees, roof damage and harm to transmission towers.
About 86,000 homes lost electricity, equivalent to 20% of units in the region. CPFL Paulista deployed 300 teams to rebuild 34 towers and more than 250 affected poles.
Alckmin confirmed federal recognition for Ribeirão Preto, Guariba, Dumont, Taquaritinga, Barrinha and Pradópolis. Municipalities can access funds for humanitarian aid, essential services recovery and reconstruction. Affected families may withdraw up to 50% of their FGTS balance, per Caixa criteria.
