Magistrate Julio Antonio Gómez Rodríguez died following an altercation in a bar in León, Guanajuato. The state prosecutor's office is investigating the case as intentional homicide and one person has been detained.
Julio Antonio Gómez Rodríguez, 39, and head of the First Collegiate Court in Administrative Matters of the Sixteenth Circuit, died early Monday morning at Cervecería 21 bar, located on Francisco I. Madero Street in downtown León.
Witnesses said the magistrate fought with a relative, reportedly his brother-in-law. During the struggle he was struck and fell down stairs, suffering a head trauma. He had no visible wounds.
Municipal police and paramedics confirmed he had no vital signs upon arrival. The state prosecutor's office opened an investigation file and the Criminal Investigation Agency processed the scene. One person was detained and placed at the disposal of authorities.
The Plenary of the Judicial Administration Body and the general secretary of Morena in Guanajuato expressed condolences for the death.
