Fidipote ruling house claims Awujale throne after deadline miss

The Fidipote Ruling House in Ijebu Ode has asserted its right to nominate candidates for the vacant Awujale stool, following the Fusengbuwa Ruling House's failure to submit names within the required timeframe. This move invokes provisions of the Ogun State Chieftaincy Law and historical declarations. The house, linked to musician KWAM 1, plans a selection meeting this weekend.

In a formal letter dated December 17, 2025, the Fidipote Ruling House notified the Ijebu Ode Local Government Area and the Ogun State Government of its entitlement to present candidates for the Awujale of Ijebuland position. The correspondence, signed by Head Oba Tajudeen Omotayo and Secretary Omooba Tunde Aderibigbe, references a prior notification to the Fusengbuwa Ruling House on December 2, 2025, under Reference No 10LG584/0/29.

According to the letter, the Ogun State Chieftaincy Law, 2021, requires the entitled ruling house to submit candidate names within 14 days of the announcement. This period ended on December 16, 2025, without any submission from Fusengbuwa, to the Fidipote house's knowledge. Citing Section 16(1)(c) of the law, the Fidipote house argues that it is next in the rotation order as per the Awujale Chieftaincy Declaration of 1959.

We respectfully refer to your letter dated December 2, 2025... The said statutory period of fourteen (14) days lapsed on 16th December 2025, without the submission of any candidate(s) by the Fusengbuwa Ruling House.

The Fidipote house has invited the local government secretary or a representative to its general meeting on December 20, 2025, at 10 a.m. in Fidipote Royal Hall, 12 Fusigboye Street, Idewon Quarters, Ijebu Ode. The agenda includes candidates expressing interest, screening by family members, and voting to select nominees for the kingmakers.

The process, they assured, will be peaceful, transparent, and aligned with legal and customary practices. Copies of the letter went to Governor Dapo Abiodun and other officials. Historically, the Fidipote house is associated with Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, known as KWAM 1, who received the title Olori Omo-Oba Ijebuland from the late Oba Sikiru Adetona in 2023.

This development follows the vacancy of the Awujale stool, with the selection process now shifting to the next ruling house amid ongoing reviews by the state government.
