The German women's national team started the qualification for the 2027 World Cup in Brazil with a 5-0 win against Slovenia. Goals came from Vivien Endemann, Elisa Senß, Linda Dallmann, Larissa Mühlhaus, and Lea Schüller. Coach Christian Wück praised the quick start, while captain Giulia Gwinn pointed to inaccuracies.
In Dresden, the DFB women's team played its first match in the qualification for the 2027 World Cup on Tuesday. Before 19,169 spectators, coach Christian Wück's team won 5-0 (2-0) against Slovenia, which has never participated in a major tournament. The goals were scored by Vivien Endemann (6th minute), Elisa Senß (12th), Linda Dallmann (48th), debutante Larissa Mühlhaus (53rd), and Lea Schüller (71st).
Wück had to rebuild the attack due to injuries to Klara Bühl (muscle injury) and Selina Cerci. Endemann started on the left, Jule Brand on the right, Dallmann in the attacking midfield. Shekiera Martinez from West Ham United surprisingly played up front from the start, before Schüller came on and scored. Endemann and Dallmann shone particularly: Endemann provided several assists, Dallmann scored a goal and gave an assist.
"We quickly created clear conditions and pushed in the second half," Wück said in an ARD interview. Captain Giulia Gwinn, who led the team for the 20th time, noted: "There were many inaccuracies in the game, we have to shed that. Still, the game makes you want more." Endemann commented on a missed chance: "Those are small things, we can work on that."
Slovenia appeared overwhelmed early, goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger prevented a goal just before halftime. Brand and Gwinn were substituted at halftime, with Wück already looking ahead to the next match against Norway on Saturday in Stavanger (6 p.m., ZDF). The third group opponent is Austria. Only the winner of Group A4 qualifies directly for the World Cup in Brazil.
