Gilles Cervara ends coaching partnership with Nishesh Basavareddy

Gilles Cervara has parted ways with 20-year-old American tennis player Nishesh Basavareddy after four months. The former coach of Daniil Medvedev announced the split on Instagram, stating that uncontrollable factors in their professional relationship led to the decision. No response has come from Basavareddy as of now.

Gilles Cervara confirmed the end of his coaching role with Nishesh Basavareddy in a recent Instagram post. The partnership, which started in December 2025 at the Mouratoglou Academy in France, lasted only a short time. Cervara wrote, “Nishesh, it is not with pleasure that I have decided to end my mission with you. There is nothing ‘wrong’ or ‘against you’, it is simply an important factor for me that explains this decision. Nonetheless, I sincerely wish you continued growth and improvement for the best in your young career, and I am sure you will.” He also thanked his teammate Chris for their collaboration and noted, “Unfortunately, it has been short, but there are things you can’t control with relationships.” This move follows Cervara's split from Daniil Medvedev last August, after eight years and 20 titles together. Cervara had joined Basavareddy early in 2025, briefly reviving his coaching presence on the tour. The decision adds to a series of recent coaching changes in professional tennis. For instance, Iga Swiatek replaced Wim Fissette with Francisco Roig after the Sunshine Swing, while Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard experienced his own abrupt shift involving Roig. Past examples include Emma Raducanu's six-month stint with Francis Roig and Jessica Pegula's five-year partnership with David Witt, both ending unexpectedly. Such instability in coaching relationships has become more common across the ATP and WTA circuits.
