GlobalNews study highlights Messi's media dominance ahead of 2026 World Cup

A GlobalNews survey analyzed thousands of mentions in Latin American media and social networks between June 5 and 11 2026, with Messi as the central figure.

The GlobalNews Group report examined 22,877 articles and nearly 475,000 social media posts during that week. Mexico led with 6,366 mentions in traditional press, followed by Brazil with 5,484 and Argentina with 3,785.

Lionel Messi accumulated 4,018 mentions, surpassing any other player. Neymar recorded 1,818 mentions, of which 70 percent were negative.

On social media, sentiment was 40 percent neutral, 35 percent negative and 25 percent positive. Argentina generated more than 20,100 positive posts, while criticism focused on ticket prices and logistical issues.

The opening match between Mexico and South Africa was the most commented event, with 5,409 mentions in media.
