The executive seeks support from senators in Coquimbo and Ñuble through budget guarantees for the pending municipal compensation article in the reconstruction bill.
President José Antonio Kast and Finance Minister Jorge Quiroz announced that resources for reconstruction in the north will be addressed in the 2027 Budget Law. Kast stated that “no queremos innovar y no vamos a innovar” in the current project and that funds will be discussed starting in September.
Senators Sergio Gahona, Matías Walker and Gustavo Sanhueza conditioned their vote on the municipal compensation article. Gahona requested clarity on financing and mechanisms to speed up works, while Walker awaits a concrete proposal in the budget discussion.
Quiroz affirmed that municipalities will receive in full what they received before the reform, both from the Fondo Común Municipal and independently. The vote on the final article in the Senate was scheduled for next Tuesday.
