Gundam sequel confirms North American release with SZA theme song

The upcoming anime film Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe, sequel to 2021's Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash, will premiere in Japan on January 30. North American theaters will also screen the movie, though an exact date remains unannounced. Singer SZA contributes the theme song 'Snooze,' accompanying a new trailer.

The Mobile Suit Gundam franchise, originating in the Universal Century timeline, continues to expand with stories featuring iconic characters like Amuro Ray and Char. This sequel focuses on Hathaway Noa, son of Bright Noa from the One Year War, leading the resistance group MAFTY against the Federation government's rule in U.C.0105, twelve years after Char’s Rebellion.

Bandai Namco Filmworks describes the plot: “MAFTY” has begun resisting the Federation government’s tyrannical rule by assassinating its high-ranking officials. Its leader is actually Hathaway Noa, the son of Bright Noa, who fought in the One Year War alongside Amuro Ray. A girl named Gigi Andalusia, who displays uncanny powers, has reminded Hathaway of a past trauma. Though he is bewildered by her words, he prepares to carry out an air raid on the Adelaide conference, determined to fulfill MAFTY’s goals and lay his own past to rest.

The narrative further details Hathaway's entanglement with Gigi, whose strange powers evoke his memories, as he readies for the mission. Meanwhile, Federation Forces' Kenneth Sleg organizes defenses for the Adelaide Conference and a plan against MAFTY, approached by Handley Yoxon of the Criminal Police Organization with a secret proposal. Gigi heads to Hong Kong for her role.

This release follows other Universal Century explorations, including an alternate reality in Gundam GQuuuuuuX where Char pilots the Gundam first, leading to Zeon's victory. The film marks a return for Noa Hathaway in North America, exciting fans of the long-standing mech anime series.
