Harding's Williams and Bangue earn GAC track and field weekly honors

The Great American Conference has named Harding University's Jerlana Williams as the women's track athlete of the week and Yedidya Bangue as the field athlete of the week. Their selections stem from standout performances at the Stallion Transportation Harding Invitational. This marks the ninth such weekly awards in the conference.

The Great American Conference announced its ninth weekly honors for women's track and field athletes, recognizing two athletes from Harding University in Russellville, Arkansas. Jerlana Williams, a sophomore from Princeton, Texas, earned the track athlete accolade for her victories at the Stallion Transportation Harding Invitational. She won the 100-meter dash with a wind-aided time of 11.58 seconds, finishing more than eight-tenths of a second ahead of the runner-up. Williams also anchored the 4x100-meter relay team to a first-place finish, edging out the second-place squad by 0.48 seconds.

Yedidya Bangue, a junior from Yaoundé, Cameroon, received the field athlete honor for her dominant throws. She set a school record in the shot put with a mark of 14.56 meters on her first attempt, qualifying for an NCAA provisional standard. Bangue also claimed the discus title with a throw of 46.02 meters, securing her second provisional qualifying mark of the meet, again on her opening effort. These performances position her with the top shot put distance and the sixth-best discus throw in NCAA Division II.

A three-person committee selected the weekly award winners. Other nominees included Abriel Thrash from Southern Nazarene University and LaKenya Williams and Diamond Brunn from Southern Arkansas University. These recognitions highlight the competitive depth in the Great American Conference for women's track and field events.
