The Hong Kong government announced on Friday that Linda So Wai-sze would become the director of the Northern Metropolis Coordination Office from Monday next week. The position has been vacant for nearly two months, with the office’s deputy director, Pecvin Yong Pui-wan, handling the role’s responsibilities since former office head Vic Yau Cheuk-hang took up the post of permanent secretary for transport and logistics.
Secretary for the Civil Service Ingrid Yeung Ho Poi-yan expressed confidence that So was equal to the task of leading the coordination office. “So is a seasoned administrative officer with proven leadership and management skills. I have every confidence that she will continue to serve the community with professionalism in her new capacity,” she said.
Since his September 2025 policy address speech, Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu has taken measures to expedite the megaproject’s development and create a new source of economic growth. The Northern Metropolis is a key initiative to develop northern areas of Hong Kong, and the coordination office oversees its planning and implementation. So, currently director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong, brings experience in cross-border cooperation.
