The match between Millonarios and Independiente Medellín was suspended on Sunday due to heavy rains and resumed on Monday. The IDRD director announced a technical visit to inspect the unacceptable pitch condition. Authorities and Sencia company acknowledge issues with the playing surface at Estadio El Campín.
The match between Millonarios and Independiente Medellín, played at Bogotá's Estadio Nemesio Camacho El Campín, was suspended on the night of Sunday, February 1, 2026, due to heavy rains that saturated the pitch. The game resumed on Monday, February 2, at 3:00 p.m., following maintenance work by Sencia, the stadium's concessionaire.
Sencia reported that its technical team activated the drainage system at full capacity, but the rain's intensity caused temporary saturation on the playing surface. Mauricio Hoyos, CEO of Sencia, acknowledged that "the grass today is not in full condition. We are aware of the challenge we face and are addressing it seriously, with technical, technological work and investment. We are putting all our capabilities at the service of football and the grass condition, listening to the sports community and responding with transparency because we are the most interested".
Juan Carlos Salamanca, manager of Equiver, the company in charge of grass maintenance for 20 years, noted that water evacuation was done in record time. "Once the total water evacuation was achieved in record time, we activated a shock protocol that includes repairing divots, leveling high-friction areas, and deep aeration treatments, with the aim of bringing the grass to the best possible conditions for today's match between Millonarios and Medellín", he explained.
Given the poor pitch condition, attributed to accumulated matches, concerts, and rains, Daniel García, director of the Instituto Distrital de Recreación y Deporte (IDRD), announced that a technical visit will take place on Tuesday, February 3, to evaluate the grass and adopt necessary measures. "The state of the grass at El Campín is unacceptable and that's why we have taken action", García stated. "After visits, requirements, and oversight accompaniment, tomorrow we will conduct a technical visit to the stadium to evaluate the pitch and, based on the results, adopt the necessary measures to care for El Campín, which is the city's heritage".
Bogotá's mayor, Carlos Fernando Galán, also commented: "The pitch at Estadio El Campín must be in good condition and we will ensure it is". Sencia continues with oxygenation work, reinforcement of the vegetal layer, and punctual adjustments to improve the field conditions.
