A car bomb exploded in front of the diplomatic headquarters at the corner of Arroyo and Suipacha, killing 29 and injuring over 250. Victims included Argentines, Bolivians, Uruguayans, Paraguayans, Italians, and Israelis, plus a taxi driver, a priest, a nursing home resident nearby, and workers from adjacent buildings. The blast destroyed the embassy and damaged surrounding structures. Official sources say Milei will be accompanied by his sister Karina Milei, the Presidency's general secretary, Chancellor Pablo Quirno, and other officials. The event's motto is “La primera vez no se olvida,” or “The first time is not forgotten.” Two years later, on July 18, 1994, the AMIA bombing killed 85 and injured over 300. Over three decades on, no one has been convicted. The Supreme Court investigated with FBI and Mossad assistance. In April 2024, a federal court ruled that Hezbollah and Iranian authorities organized, planned, financed, and carried out the attack, citing Iranian officials and potential cover-ups involving former Argentine officials.
