Peronist leader Julio Bárbaro voiced support for Axel Kicillof as the Peronist presidential candidate in 2027, with some caveats. He dismissed pastor Dante Gebel, criticizing his move to Miami.
Julio Bárbaro, a veteran Peronist leader, stated in an interview on Radio con Vos that he favors Axel Kicillof as a potential candidate for the 2027 presidential elections. "Today I like Kicillof, if they free him a bit from certain burdens he carries," he said.
Bárbaro praised Kicillof's recent trip with Presidents Lula and Sheinbaum but urged the Buenos Aires governor to distance himself from the Peronist past. He added that Kicillof might have luck facing attacks from Javier Milei and internal Peronist factions.
In contrast, he rejected evangelical pastor Dante Gebel's candidacy, promoted by some Justicialist sectors. "The idea of importing even a president is pure colonialism. If he moved to Miami, it's because he has bad taste," Bárbaro declared, stressing the need for local leaders.
