President José Antonio Kast announced Tuesday the departure of ministers Trinidad Steinert and Mara Sedini in a cabinet adjustment that comes just 69 days into his term.
The president informed the decision to the leaders of the ruling parties during the afternoon. The formal announcement of the changes is scheduled for around 8 p.m. at La Moneda.
According to Executive sources, current Transport Minister Martín Arrau will take over the Security portfolio. Interior Minister Claudio Alvarado will serve as biminister adding the Government spokesperson role. Louis de Grange will also assume the Ministry of Public Works.
The measure marks the fastest cabinet adjustment recorded since the return to democracy in Chile. Until now the record belonged to Michelle Bachelet with a change 126 days after taking office in 2006.
Senators from Renovación Nacional supported the decision and valued Kast’s promptness. The opposition criticized the management and accused improvisation by the Executive.
