Kickstarter campaign launches for NES homebrew multicart Allison of Astra

A new Kickstarter project offers a physical multicart compiling seven episodes of the NES homebrew series Allison of Astra. Developed by Peter Paltridge, the collection features a dimension-hopping protagonist in interconnected adventures blending humor and satire. The campaign has raised $3,800 toward its $8,000 goal as of its launch.

The Allison of Astra series follows a six-year-old girl with blue hair who describes herself as “the greatest treasure hunter in the multiverse.” She travels across dimensions seeking treasures, which can include unusual items like extracting a roll from a talking toilet paper vending machine in one episode. Each of the seven episodes presents a unique world with distinct gameplay mechanics, such as navigating a doodle realm to find the Power Pencil while evading the Eraser of Eternity, or dealing with a robot uprising on the island nation of Napaj.

The project originated during the pandemic, with individual episodes released throughout 2022 and 2023. Now consolidated into a single multicart, it uses open-source code from Action53 and the rare Mapper 28 circuit board, which adds about $15 to production costs. Developer Peter Paltridge optimized each game to fit within a 256kb limit, compressing from NESMaker's standard 512kb output without removing content. The multicart also includes Mess Maker, a stamp program for creating custom scenes, and an exclusive preview demo of Season Two.

Paltridge, known for his work on BANG Magazine and the webcomic site Platypus Comix, aimed to deliver serialized, story-driven content with social satire—something absent from the original NES era. He notes the series as “a story-rich world with large amounts of humor and social satire, where you keep coming back because you love the characters and want to see what they do next.”

Funding options range from $30 for digital ROMs and a manual PDF to $100 for the Superior Collectors Edition, which features an alternate cover, red cartridge, and numbered certificate. Early backers accessed a discounted tier at $70 for the first 48 hours. The campaign, which ships worldwide in July 2026, provides a browser-based demo for potential supporters to try the gameplay on desktop or mobile devices.
