P4 Örebro reported on Friday that Örebro municipality assisted Kif Örebro by temporarily handling certain rent invoices in spring 2024. The purpose was to ensure the football club passed its elite license, which was acutely threatened at the time, according to the municipality's confirmation as reported by Nerikes Allehanda.
The elite license was granted following the intervention, but now two years later, the matter is under review by the licensnämnd. Chairman Richard Johnsson has indicated that Kif Örebro could face points deduction or fines for the handling.
Swedish Football Association economist Kjell Sahlström says: "We will take up the issue in the licensnämnd to see what we can do."
The incident is compared to Hjalmar Bergman's novel "Markurells i Wadköping", featuring municipal dribbling.
