Lugi defeats Redbergslid and nears Handbollsligan promotion

Lugi took a key step toward returning to the Handbollsligan by defeating Redbergslid 35-29 in Arenan, Lund, on Monday. Goalkeeper Viggo Håkansson, 19, played a pivotal role with several saves. The win gives Lugi a four-point lead over second-place Skånela.

On Monday, Lugi faced Redbergslid in a crucial match at Arenan in Lund. Lugi trailed 12-13 at halftime but turned the game around after more than 13 minutes in the second half. The home team's goalkeeper Viggo Håkansson saved several shots and ignited both the crowd and teammates in key moments.

"It is incredibly fun and we have put everything together very well in a short time," says the 19-year-old after the win.

Offensively, Anton Sandström stood out with nine goals total, including six in the final period of the second half, helping Lugi pull away to 35-29. Håkansson, who previously only played in division 2, expresses joy over the opportunity in the Allsvenskan.

"I am enjoying this and of course gaining more confidence with each match. There is more to get," he says, citing hard training as key.

His older brother Ebbe Håkansson plays in the Handbollsligan for HK Malmö and was present to watch the game. The victory extends Lugi's lead to four points over Skånela, who have one fewer match played. With two rounds remaining, first place secures promotion. Coach Ola Månsson receives praise for the team's rapid progress since preseason.

"We win under pressure. It feels damn good," adds Håkansson.
