US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will travel to India from May 23 to 26 for meetings with Indian officials and a Quad foreign ministers gathering.
The State Department announced that Rubio will visit Kolkata, Agra, Jaipur and New Delhi during his four-day trip. This marks his first visit to India as secretary of state.
Rubio will first attend a NATO Foreign Ministers meeting in Helsingborg, Sweden, on May 22 before heading to India. He is expected to discuss energy security, trade and defence cooperation with senior Indian officials.
The visit includes a Quad foreign ministers meeting in New Delhi on May 26. Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu and Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar are scheduled to take part.
The announcement comes after earlier tensions in US-India relations that included temporary tariffs. Officials from both sides have recently focused on strengthening bilateral ties.
