Marina Silva decides to stay in Rede and is set to run for Senate in São Paulo

Former Environment Minister Marina Silva announced she will remain in Rede Sustentabilidade, the party she helped found, with the federation alongside PSOL favoring her candidacy for a Senate seat in São Paulo. The decision was made on the last day of the party affiliation window, following a meeting with federation leaders. She turned down invitations from other parties despite internal disputes.

Marina Silva made the decision on Friday (3), the last day of the party affiliation window, after a meeting with the Rede-PSOL federation. The preference is to launch her for the Senate alongside Simone Tebet (PSB), former Planning Minister, on the ticket with Fernando Haddad (PT) running for São Paulo governor.

"[Marina Silva] is the name we will defend [for the Senate] with the other parties," Juliano Medeiros, president of the PSOL-Rede federation, told Folha.

There is an impasse over the two Senate seats. President Lula expressed a desire for Marina and Tebet, but Márcio França (PSB), a former minister, also left the government eyeing the position. As Tebet and França are from the same party, efforts are underway to accommodate allies on the ticket.

Rede and PSOL insist Marina join the São Paulo slate, not ruling out her running for federal deputy again, as in 2022 when she received 237,500 votes. She left the Environment Ministry on Wednesday (1st), with Amazon deforestation declining but facing setbacks like oil exploration approvals in the Foz do Amazonas.

Senator Sergio Moro has decided to leave União Brasil and join PL to run for Paraná governor in the 2026 elections, backed by Flávio Bolsonaro's party. The move breaks PL's alliance with Governor Ratinho Jr. and aims to secure a strong stage for the presidential candidate in the state.

Vereadora de São Paulo Marina Bragante, primeira eleita pela Rede Sustentabilidade na cidade e aliada de Marina Silva, anunciou nesta sexta-feira (4) sua saída do partido e filiação ao PSB. The PSOL national leadership meets Saturday morning to discuss a proposed partisan federation with the PT, as well as renewing the alliance with Rede Sustentabilidade. The idea of partnering with the PT has caused internal divisions, isolating the group led by Guilherme Boulos. Despite resistance, the party plans to support Lula's reelection.

Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) announced on Friday (5) that he was chosen by his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, as the presidential candidate in 2026. The decision strengthens the family's influence in the Bolsonarista camp and draws reactions from the PT, which sees benefits for Lula. On Saturday (6), Argentine President Javier Milei expressed support for the pre-candidacy.

Discontent with Governor Tarcísio de Freitas, PP leaders are considering launching former Governor Rodrigo Garcia as their own candidate for São Paulo's governorship in 2026. The party prioritizes electing Guilherme Derrite to the Senate but sees potential in Garcia to mobilize support. The move reflects complaints from mayors and lawmakers about the current government's lack of attention.

The PT in Paraíba has decided to support Governor Lucas Ribeiro's (PP) gubernatorial ticket, which includes the father of Chamber President Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB) for Senate. State party president Cida Ramos said the alliance aims to boost Lula's vote share in the state. However, President Lula will not endorse Motta's father.
