More than 400 Army and National Guard personnel arrived in Zacatecas on Sunday to bolster security following the discovery of 10 bodies in three municipalities.
The state government said the contingent joined ongoing operations that include patrols, checkpoints and aerial surveillance with three aircraft.
Governor David Monreal Ávila stated that a permanent deployment remains in place and that the Grupo de Inteligencia Operativa was installed at the 11th Military Zone to coordinate actions.
The state Attorney General’s Office identified the victims, all men, including Fresnillo’s social development secretary Fidel Alvarado de la Torre, former Sombrerete mayor Ignacio Castrejón Valdez and former Canatlán councilor Andrés Vázquez Gurrola from Durango.
Investigations continue with federal and state authorities to locate those responsible.
