The 23.7-kilometer branch has seven stations and can carry up to 82,000 passengers daily.
President Claudia Sheinbaum announced in her April 23 morning conference that the Tren Felipe Ángeles, formerly the Suburban Train, will inaugurate its Lechería-AIFA branch this Sunday, April 26. The federal government completed the acquisition of 51% of the shares for 5,999 million pesos, buying 43.4% from Spanish firm CAF and the rest from Omnitren. The National Infrastructure Fund (Fonadin) will now fully operate the train.
The branch spans 23.7 kilometers through seven stations: Cueyamil, La Loma, Teyahualco, Prado Sur, Cajiga, Jaltocan, and AIFA. The full trip will take about 43 minutes. For the first month, from April 26 to May 26, intermediate tickets will cost 11.50 pesos and the full ride to AIFA, 45 pesos—lower than other transport options.
Jorge Mendoza, Banobras director, said the goal is "for people to come and get to know it; it's a magnificent work, and second, to use this promotion period to settle the train's operations." It is expected to carry up to 82,000 passengers daily.
Sheinbaum emphasized this as the first piece of a broader network, including a branch to Pachuca with six planned stations, to enhance connectivity from Buenavista in Mexico City northward.
