The goals were scored by Renato Marques and Carlos Eduardo in the second half, securing the São Paulo team 66 points and fourth place in the table, three points behind Cruzeiro. This victory ensured a direct spot in the 2026 Libertadores group stage, the club's first participation in Série A and the continental tournament.
Coach Rafael Guanaes became emotional after the final whistle, crying on the field, and recently renewed his contract for another year. Mirassol has an impressive record: 18 wins, 12 draws, and seven losses in 37 games, remaining undefeated as the home team.
From Vasco's side, coach Fernando Diniz praised his team's performance despite the loss. 'We didn't play a bad game, quite the opposite, we played a very good game against a very good opponent,' he said, noting that his team created chances but failed to convert, while Mirassol capitalized on its two opportunities. Diniz contested Vasco's 45 points and 11th place: 'Our points tally should have been higher, we left many points on the table.' To participate in the Libertadores, Mirassol must meet Conmebol rules. One requirement is having a women's team, and the club is building one from scratch, without partnerships, with player confirmations scheduled for January 2, 2026. Another issue is the airport: Conmebol requires an international flight base within 150 km of the stadium. Since Mirassol lacks one, the club is temporarily internationalizing Aeroporto Eribelto Manoel Reino in São José do Rio Preto. The administration, via ASP, stated that the facility already meets Anvisa and Federal Police requirements, with no need for renovations. Competent authorities have been contacted to enable this.
Mirassol's next game is on Sunday, December 7, against Flamengo at Estádio Campos Maia.
