MLB and MLBPA release 2025 drug testing results

Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association released the annual public report on drug testing for 2025. The report, prepared by Dr. Thomas M. Martin, documented two positive tests for performance-enhancing substances among players on 40-man rosters. A total of 11,700 tests were conducted during the reporting period.

The Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program's independent administrator, Dr. Thomas M. Martin, issued the report on Monday. It covers the 2025 period, spanning from the start of the previous offseason to the conclusion of this year's postseason.

Testing efforts included 9,400 urine samples screened for performance-enhancing substances, stimulants, DHEA, diuretics, masking agents, and drugs of abuse. Additionally, 2,300 blood samples were examined for human growth hormone.

Both positive tests involved players on 40-man rosters and were linked to performance-enhancing substances. Over the last two reporting periods, more than 23,000 tests have occurred, resulting in four positives among 40-man roster players.

This annual disclosure underscores the program's ongoing commitment to maintaining integrity in the sport through comprehensive monitoring.
